Clifton Smith to the Bucs

Tampa signed him to a free agent contract after inviting him up to mini-camp.
He showed out.

They know! They know!

Name to remember

The best undrafted free agents are signed right away.

The overlooked ones are fortunate to score tryouts somewhere.

But Fresno State running back Clifton Smith made the most of his. The Buccaneers brought him to Tampa for last weekend’s rookie minicamp and the 5-foot-9, 192-pound Smith made such an impression that the Buccaneers signed him Monday to a free-agent contract.

The Buccaneers believe Smith, Fresno State’s team MVP last season, could be a sleeper, helping them not only in the backfield but in the return game. Last season, Smith averaged 14.4 yards per punt return.

Of course, it’s a long way from now until the final cuts, but for now, Tampa Bay is encouraged.

Smash mouth is like the Afro

Pat Hill has a top notch program. All of his staff is fundamentally sound. Fresno State's offense is somehow innovative. I guess smash mouth is so retro that it may become a new fad in the future.

They can provide players a pathway into the pros, playing time and being important.

Legitimacy

Alabama just hired Fresno State's Offensive Coordinator.

This is good in terms of visibility but sucks in terms of continuity.
Isn't Kelly Skipper still over there. He should be the new OC.

The Bulldogs

Fresno state is definitely on the upswing. I think in the next 10 years they will either expand the PAC 10 or create a California based conference. FSU will slide right in. I think they stopped dealing with the non qualifiers recently and are up to par with the academic standards. Nice work with the link and photo. You're in the game now. I made another effort at a large audience. We'll see tomorrow if the experiment worked. They can be any of the bottom half BCS conference teams and should be competitive with Wisconsin.

Pat Hill

this is nothing but good news- after stealing ryan mathews from USC last year Pat Hill is at it again. his current class is in the top 50 nationwide.

i also noticed they are top 25 in preseason poll for next year.

Wisconsin at Fresno or Fresno at UCLA may have to be done next year.
