Pearlman writes that Troy Aikman was disgusted by Sanders. And Barry Switzer too. He also notes that Switzer's liquor tab during the week of the Pittsburgh-Dallas Super Bowl in Arizona was $100,000. That's a heck of an example to set, Barry. What a great hire.

My boy Cromartie

As we have discussed numberous times on here, Cromartie is sick and is better than Champ in my opinion. I watched Champ grow up in Washington, an Antonio is just ill.

In short, he’s one of those guys who can do just about anything, as Williams found out during Cromartie’s personal workout for the NFL before being drafted. As Cromartie was getting ready to do the vertical jump, he told Williams he would hit the 50-inch mark.

“I said, ‘Antonio, you’re not going to do that, you’re not an Olympic high jumper,’ ” said Williams, who has worked with Olympic athletes such as sprinter Lauryn Williams. “He just said, ‘We’ll see.’ So we get to the vertical jump and they set the top height at 44 inches.


“Well, Antonio jumps up and cups his hand over the top of the whole thing. Everybody goes silent and just kind of looks at each other. They didn’t know what to really do. But it takes awhile to set up the apparatus to measure the jump, so they just write 45 and move on. It was just ridiculous. It was way past 45, whatever it was.”


When it comes to Cromartie, it seems that the only boundaries are the dimensions of the field.

Leftwitch and Culpepper

Why hasn't anyone picked them up. Leftwich may suck but he is better than Croyle.
Culpepper when healthy was actually really good at times. He made nfl type professional throws. His receivers could not catch them but it was obvious why he had an mvp season at times.

Danny's new Toy

Have you seen the Redskins?

They traced a 1, 3 and a 5 for three 2nd rounders. They got the guy they wanted in the first in the 2nd and got Fred and Malcolm for a 3rd and 5th respectively. Now Dan is swapping a lot of players. He found a new toy to play with and it's called the draft. The Redskins will be big players in the draft going forward.

In Ocho we trust

I'm not mad at Ocho for turning on Marvin. Rosenhaus and Danny have a great relationship and have shown the ability to get deals done. I think this will make it easy for them to go after Chad and Lance. I am not investing any hope in Chad and will instead will push a Bernard Berrian deal. He is a great vertical threat and is tall, which are both good for Campbell. They must replace Lloyd.

Legitimacy

Alabama just hired Fresno State's Offensive Coordinator.

This is good in terms of visibility but sucks in terms of continuity.
Isn't Kelly Skipper still over there. He should be the new OC.

Moochie as the new Redskin Coach- West Coast instantiation in DC

Steve Mariucci's name has surfaced in the Redskin's coaching search.
The new OC is a West Coast style guy. I like him more than Fassell and Blache is fiery enough to make up for Steve's sensitivity. Blache is more than capable to run the defense and so is the DB coach Jerry Gray, so the they will be fine on defense.
Maybe Jason learned the West Coast already. There is a slight chance Al Borges ran it when he was Auburn. West Coast forces him to scramble more and that is a good thing. Don't doubt Daniel quite yet.

The key factor is that Blache and Moochie have worked together already!!!!!

The Skins game

The Redskins set themselves down a path of disarray.
The worst thing that could have happened was a another system for Jason Campbell. The potential best thing that could have happened to him is a real QB coach that can teach him. Because he has seen so many systems, and good QB coach can help him memory map and lead him to elite status quickly. The defensive system will most likely be the same so the transition may not be as drastic as we may think. What's up with your photos? How are you attaching them? Start off with larger or higher quality photos and I think the blurriness will lessen. Gregg Williams should have left earlier for a head job. He made a corporate America mistake. Take any opportunity you can because your company doesn't care about you. He forgot that rule.

Chow-time in Westwood

Norm Chow is headed to UCLA to be their Offensive Coordinator. This is a stunning development in the PAC 10. USC is still reaping the benefits of Norm. He personally trained Sarkisian and Lane Kiffin.


He is the Yoda of college offense. Putting him at UCLA with star coach in the making DeWayne Walker gives UCLA the best coordination in their league. Norm and DeWayne are two decade long friends, so that lends to even more chemistry. Ricky did a solid job with the Huskies a few years back and should be able to do better at UCLA with better recruits and the best coordinators in college.


UCLA will win the PAC 10 within 3 years. This may force Pete to the ATL.

Playoff thoughts

Danny boy should go ahead and hire Gregg. The defense cannot get any better with another coach. The only thing that can improve it is someone like Asante Samuel or Haynesworth. A different coach won't change them from say spot 5 to spot 3, only players can do that.


I expect Favre and company to win today. I think GB's corners can jam up Eli's receivers. From what I've seen, Eli sucks when under pressure. I see the Packers making enough big plays to win.

It is good to see you have some hope for your Chargers. I feel that they play the right kind of football to disrupt the Patriots. They have dominant line play and they have Cromartie. The reason why Martyball failed was because the Chargers could not stop teams that line up with 4 or 5 receivers. That is a typically weakness of the 3-4 defense. It's the reason why Blitzburg will sometime struggle and why New England always comes out passing against San Diego. If Cromartie can cover Moss deep successfully in the beginning stages of the game, San Diego has a shot.

On that note, I think they will pull it off. If they don't, then I am comfortable with New England's status because they beat all of the teams that I thought had a chance against them.

Revenge of the Norv

As you know, I'm a big fan of people reaching or overshooting their potential. It has been quite enjoyable to watch Norv develop these last two weeks. Norv is not charismatic ok! He does not lead in a "Man-ish" sort of way. He is more like the squeaky and clever old grandma that is always getting good deals. It can be annoying but you still have to respect her because she was always right. Norv is like that in terms of leadership style. Somehow, he survived just long enough for his intelligence to display its benefits. I think it's due to the wildfires and various other team bonding turmoils. Those experiences gave the team time to buy into what was being presented to them. The sleeper has awakened. Norv's warrior-inside has emerged.

AJ Smith deserved the extension he just received. He has done a greatjob. He had to weather the storm also. Martyball is dead. Cromartie is the X factor. If he can cover Moss on the deep stuff 1 on 1 they can win. He is probably fast enough to keep up with him. He might be like Aeneus was on Irvin. He used to jam Mike up.

Don't sleep on Weddle. He may be a good match up for Welker. He is just as smart. He is going to be solid.

Pete to Falcons?

who in their right mind thinks this is going to happen? it has been said that he would only do it if he was given full authority. but do you want full authority of that mess? this will be an interesting development. do you leave a job that i am sure is as fun as anything out there for a project? do not question he WILL get paid. you have to think somewhere in the 5 year $45-50 million range guaranteed. he is probably making less then then $4 million/year now. 2 things- he is a god in LA and the college ranks. even if he goes to Atlanta, which has a good owner, and fails he will be $45 million richer and would still have his choice of jobs in college. i am thinking UCLA will be on probation by then.

Playoff thoughts/ Faith and Football

Football equals life to some people. Football is full of many cliches. In reality though, those phrases are dual use. They apply to a football situation as well as real life. For the past few weeks I've been on a "never give up" campaign. I've been using football as my coping mechanism. I can remember all the times in football that my body wanted to give up but my mind wouldn't let it. I've been applying the same thoughts that allowed me to get through those moments to my current situation. I read this great article about how Joe Gibbs led his team back from nowhere into the playoffs. The article is about how they hit rock bottom this season and how Joe Gibbs forced the recovery. My "A setback is a setup for a comeback" theory was validated. LINK!

Football is a way of life and not just a game.

Redskins gave it all they had. For a short time in the 3rd quarter, I got to see Sean Taylor again. He channeled his spirit through the young and mighty Laron Landry to give the Skins a chance to win. Those two plays reminded me of Sean. In the end, Seattle's playoff level defense combined with the crowd noise was too much for the depleted yet spirited Redskins.

Jacksonville beat Pittsburgh as we had all discussed. No further comments are necessary. Read the blog if you need more information.

We all wanted Tampa Bay to win. New York was a better team that played better. Too much more physically and just as fast. They didn't disrupt Eli enough to beat NY.

Norv Turner ball at it finest. He did what Marty could not ever do. He was worth the hire even if he loses from here on out. He took them further than they have been since 1994. Leave Norv alone. Tennessee needs another receiver, a healthy Young, Pacman and they will be cool. They can be great next year.

Nostrodamus

No Vince means no hope. San Diego got warm at the appropriate time. Norv has a chance for redemption. Hopefully he will capitalize.

The Steelers are tired and the weather has mutilated their playing facility. The Jags are built for playoff football. They have a chance.

We'll see about SeaTac vs DC. I don't want to say anything except for the fact that Laron Landry is a savage.

Giants vs Bucs. I want TB to win so that they can put Coughlin out of his misery. Both teams will lose to Favre.

Parcells may bring in Carthon as his coach. That would be interesting. Ireland and Bill are similar so they enforce viewpoints.

The Jason Garret situation will be interesting in Dallas. They most likely prepared for situation last year when they hired Garrett. Everyone knew that he would be a hot commodity so they should be ready. Now they just have to announce it because the offers are going to start. He probably will ask wade to step aside. If Wade say no he still has our boy B Stuart as the DC.

He will want to trade that pick with Dallas. I think they will find something to give up for him. Marion Barber becomes expendable with McFad. I doubt it but something could happen.

Mark this down! Oklahoma's QB Bradford is going to be very very special.

Negative Boilerplates

So it seems that Jared Allen's drinking past will stay with him for at least another year or so.

He is an All Pro this year. We named him to the OurW Mid-season award team earlier and he rightly deserved it.

Hopefully he can she his troubled past stigma and move on.

Exit Stage Left

Since the regular season has concluded in the NFL, it is now time for the annual firings to commence. Mr. Billick has lost his job. He probably could have won another with Trent honestly. All of the other QB's have failed to do anything. The only reason he got the job in the first place was because of Randy Moss. His rookie season made Billick seem better than he actually was.

Who's next, Nolan? Marvin? Cameron? Somebody is about to lose their job, I guarantee it.

The winner is......

The New England game will be televised instead of being held for ransom by the NFL Network. Did this happen because they actually care about the fans? No. It happened because the New England Representative didn't have the NFL Network and used Congress to achieve his own personal agenda. In this situation I think his actions were justifiable because it is a better thing for all of America. What is not acceptable is when personal agenda's help the one individual and harm the everyone else like many other ideas in the past.

This topic was discussed here a week ago, and I now stand corrected. For the first time in my life, being wrong is actually a better thing.
